Top 10 Tips to Healthy Winter Skin.
Winter is very harsh on our skins due to the cold, dry air and indoor heating. Here are some tips to maintain healthier, hydrated skin during the winter months.
- Cleanse Gently
It’s best to use a mild, hydrating cleanser that won’t strip natural oils.
Avoid over-washing your face; morning and evening is all the washing it needs.
Try using a Hydrating micellar water or a Gentle Cleansing Cream.
- Moisturise Frequently.
It’s important to moisturise your whole body not just the areas exposed to the elements. Our arms, legs, lips and hands will also become dry just like our faces and need to be taken care of.
Apply moisturisers immediately after showering or washing to lock in moisture.
I like to use a Soothing Hydrating Day Cream with SPF for my face and a Hydrating Body Lotion for my body.
Look for products containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides or glycerin.
- Protect Your Lips
Apply a hydrating, nourishing lip balm with SPF to prevent your lips from chapping.
Be sure to reapply during the day keeping lips soft and protected.
- Stay Hydrated
Drink lot’s for water keeping your skin hydrated from the inside.
Indoors keep fresh air flowing to keep moisture in the air, heating drys out the air.
- Use Sunscreen
Even in winter UV rays can still damage your skin. Apply your sun cream everyday.
- Exfoliate Weekly
Exfoliating once or twice a week will remove dry, flaky skin helping to keep your skin clear and bright. Avoid over-exfoliation as that can irritate your skin.
- Avoid Hot Showers.
I for one love a hot bath or shower to warm myself up but these can strip your body of its natural oils and dry out the skin, stick to lukewarm water instead.
- Focus On Sensitive Areas.
We sometimes forget about our hands, feet and elbows but these areas need just as much attention. Use a richer cream in these areas and always cover up when going out.
- Choose Non-Irritating Products.
Alcohol based skincare products can dry out your skin, it’s best to avoid these products and products with a strong fragrance. Instead opt for products labelled for sensitive skin.
- Diet
Our diets play a big part in looking after our body and in looking after our skin.Eating healthy fats found in nuts, seeds and fish can give your skin better elasticity.
By tailoring our skincare routines to the winter season, we can keep our skin not only soft and hydrated, but keep it glowing all through the season.
